Last minute report from Pulaski, NY
Wayne just called in an amazing fishing report. He & Rich went over to the Salmon River in Pulaski, NY on Monday, 5/5/08. Weather was beautiful, trees are bursting with leaves and the water temperature is 56 degrees. They see Steelhead all over the lower end of the river. Rich hooked and landed one. wayne had zero, not even a chub. They did have a hard time finding the right fly but had a great time.
Today, Tuesday, by noon Wayne had caught 5 Brown Trout , one Steelhead. They are using the new Wright Mcgill 11' Switch rod and tan Stone Flys. Nobody else is fishing within 1/2 mile of them.
5pm update - just heard from the boys. Wayne is so excited he can hardly speak. He just caught and landed (3) 10lb Steelhead on three casts this afternoon on the Wright McGill Switch rod (which handled the fish beautifully) and he switched to a #10 Zug Bug. Wham! Rich then switched to the #10 Zug bug on his 8 WT fly rod and hooked up w/ a monster Steelhead - had to be over 15lbs. After four big runs it broke off. They tell me tons of Steelhead even by their feet. More Browns too. Sounds like they may not be coming back...
Keep you posted,
Dagmar
Wayne's 5/3/08 Report
Will Spring arrive? With the warm weather a week ago we thought it was here but it has proven to be rather chilly of late. 20's at night and low 50's during the day with drizzle.
A few of the trophy areas gave been stocked with Trout ranging 14 1/2 - 19". Some nice Rainbows and Browns have been caught, mostly on Rapala Countdowns, Mepps large Aglia plain spinners, and bait. Not much on the fly reported. Anglers have seen Hendrickson hatches but no bites.
I have had some reports that a few Smallmouth have been caught on Lake Champlain along with Largemouth. Water levels are extremely high.
Hope to see you on the water,
Wayne

Wayne's Report 4/20/08
Only in Vermont,as the saying goes"wait 5 minutes and the weather will change." After a cold start to opening day, 1 week later the temps are in the 80's. Nice fishing weather but it created a snow melt on our mts. The result is very high waters.
This past week i got out fishing with Jeff S. using his new Scott S4 4wt. We managed to catch about 20 brookies using a black stonefly.
On saturday my brother Glenn visited from NJ and tried his new Scott A2. He
caught a 12" rainbow on his first cast.(check photo gallery)
Some reports came in and fish our still biting at Lake Shaftsbury. REMEMBER TO LIMIT YOUR LIMIT,,We have had reports of fisherman keeping more than thier limit on the lake.
The reports on bass fishing: not a lot of action yet.
